New Delhi, June 2026 — Congress leader and AICC media chairman Pawan Khera launched a sharp attack on the Central Government over the ongoing NEET examination controversy, alleging serious administrative failures and questioning the accountability of those responsible for conducting one of India’s most important entrance examinations.
Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters, Khera raised concerns about the repeated emergence of examination irregularities and paper leak allegations affecting lakhs of students across the country. He questioned why corrective action appears to be initiated only after a controversy becomes public.
“Why does the Prime Minister begin monitoring the situation only after a scandal has occurred?” Khera asked while criticizing the government’s handling of the issue. He argued that preventive mechanisms should have been in place to protect the integrity of the examination system from the outset.
The Congress leader emphasized that students spend years preparing for highly competitive examinations such as NEET, and any compromise in the examination process directly impacts their future careers and mental well-being. He stated that the trust of students and parents in national examinations has been severely affected by recurring controversies.
Khera also sought accountability from the Union Education Ministry, questioning who should be held responsible for the alleged lapses. He criticized the lack of visible action against senior officials and demanded transparency regarding the investigation and preventive measures being implemented.
According to Khera, the issue extends beyond a single examination and reflects broader concerns regarding the management of competitive exams in the country. He argued that the government must restore confidence in the examination system through stronger safeguards, strict enforcement, and institutional accountability.
The Congress party reiterated its demand for a fair, transparent, and secure examination process, asserting that students should not suffer due to administrative shortcomings. The party called for a thorough investigation into the controversy and urged authorities to ensure that merit and fairness remain the foundation of India’s education system.
The press conference forms part of the opposition’s continuing criticism of the government’s handling of examination-related issues and is expected to intensify political debate over education governance in the coming weeks.
