The gruelling summers have almost come to an end.
It’s time to plan a refreshing getaway to soak in the beauty of the monsoons. Maharashtra transforms into a lush, misty paradise filled with roaring waterfalls and dense forests.
In this series of most favourite places to visit to soak in the lush greenery of the glorious monsoon we recommend the quaint township of IGATPURI
Often called a nature lover’s haven, it comes alive with cascading waterfalls, deep valleys, and lush green of the majestic Sahyadri peaks.
Igatpuri is a hill station in Maharashtra, India — about 2 hours from Mumbai and 45 min from Nashik.
Why people go:
Vallies + waterfalls:
Bhatsa River Valley, Camel Valley, and monsoon waterfalls like Vihigaon and Ashoka are the big draw. June–Sept is peak greenery.

Vipassana Centre
Dhamma Giri is one of the world’s largest Vipassana meditation centres. 10-day silent courses run year-round.

Trekking:
Kalsubai Peak — Maharashtra’s highest — is ∼1.5 hrs away. Tringalwadi Fort and Ghatandevi Temple treks are right there.

Climate: 3,000+ ft elevation, so it stays 5–8°C cooler than Mumbai. Monsoon is foggy and lush; winter nights drop to -10

Getting there:
Train: Igatpuri station is on the Mumbai–Nashik line. Most trains stop here.
Road: Mumbai–Nashik Highway NH-160. Weekend traffic from Mumbai gets heavy.
Quick tips:
- Best time Monsoon for waterfalls, Oct–Feb for clear views and trekking.
- Stay: Lots of resorts with valley views. Book early for monsoon weekends.
- Food: Local Maharashtrian thalis, vada pav at the station, and lots of farms selling fresh strawberries during the winter season.
So plan and do visit Igatpuri this year.
You will definitely want to extend your stay here.
